Michele Jules

Through contemporary Australian art, I celebrate the extraordinary wildlife, landscapes and stories of Far North Queensland, inspiring people to value, protect and connect with the natural and cultural heritage of our region.

My Journey

Born in Brisbane, Queensland, in 1962, Michele Jules has always been inspired by the landscapes, wildlife and stories of this ancient country. From an early age, creativity became her way of observing, understanding and connecting with the world around her.

Michele studied Visual Communications at the Brisbane College of Art, graduating with a Diploma before beginning her professional career in Sydney as an Assistant Animator with Hanna-Barbera Australia. Working on internationally recognised productions including Scooby-Doo, Lucky Luke and Mork & Mindy, she developed a strong foundation in visual storytelling, character design, illustration and the discipline of bringing ideas to life.

Returning to Queensland, Michele built a successful career as a Graphic Designer, Editorial Artist and Illustrator. She worked with News Limited in Brisbane and Cairns, creating artwork and visual content for daily publications, while also completing creative projects for PBL (Publishing and Broadcasting Limited) and a diverse range of clients throughout Australia.

These decades of experience in illustration, design and storytelling continue to influence her approach to painting today. Every artwork begins with observation, emotion and a desire to tell a story through colour, form and connection.

Michele’s fascination with Aboriginal culture and Australia’s ancient history has been a lifelong journey. Through family connections, travel and personal exploration, she has developed a deep respect for the stories, spirituality and enduring connection to Country held within the world’s oldest living culture.

Her travels through places of great cultural significance, including Kakadu, the Kimberley, Laura, Cooktown, Uluru, the Flinders Ranges and Carnarvon, have strengthened her appreciation for the deep relationship between people, land and story.

Living in Far North Queensland, Michele draws constant inspiration from the unique beauty of the region — its rainforests, mountains, waterways and extraordinary wildlife. Her paintings celebrate the spirit of this environment, from native birds and animals to expressive portraits inspired by connection, resilience and belonging.

Through contemporary colour, expressive mark-making and dot-inspired elements, Michele creates artworks that reflect admiration, respect and ongoing learning. Her work is not intended to replicate traditional Aboriginal art, but rather represents her own contemporary artistic expression shaped by her life experiences, professional background and deep appreciation for Australia’s cultural and natural heritage.

For Michele, painting is about connection — connection to people, stories, wildlife, culture and Country. Each artwork is created with gratitude and the hope of inspiring greater understanding, respect and appreciation for the remarkable place we call home.
